Why we charge this way

A small fee on entry fees, nothing on sponsorship

Some fundraising platforms charge a subscription, take a cut of every donation, or both. We don't think that's right for volunteer-led groups, where a few hundred pounds matters and admin time is in short supply.

Our platform fee is a small percentage on the entry fees you sell, and nothing at all on sponsorship. When a parent or friend sponsors a child taking part, we take no cut of that donation. The only other charge is the standard card-processing fee Stripe applies to any online payment, entry or sponsorship alike, the same as on any website that takes cards. Supporters are offered an optional tip at the point of giving, which is how we get paid on the sponsorship side. The tip is theirs to change or decline.

No setup fees. No monthly fees. No contracts. No ads. If the event doesn't bring in any money, neither do we.

Common questions

Is fun-run.co.uk free to use?

Yes. There are no setup fees, monthly fees, or contracts. You only pay a platform fee on entry fees you sell. As with any website that takes card payments, standard card-processing charges apply to all online payments, entry and sponsorship alike.

What does it cost to run an event?

A 3.5% platform fee on entry fees, plus the standard Stripe card-processing charge of 1.5% + 20p, which applies to every online payment including sponsorship. There is no platform fee on sponsorship itself.

How do supporter tips work?

When a supporter gives sponsorship online, they see a small optional tip on top of their donation. The tip helps cover the cost of running fun-run.co.uk. Supporters can change the amount or decline the tip entirely. None of the tip comes out of the donation to your group. It's an additional amount the supporter chooses to give.

Can supporters add Gift Aid?

Yes. When a supporter sponsors online, they can add a Gift Aid declaration as they give. For eligible donations from UK taxpayers, that's an extra 25% to your group at no cost to the supporter, and no paper declarations for the treasurer to chase or store. The declaration is captured at the point of giving, so the records are there when you claim. You can read HMRC's guidance on Gift Aid to check what's eligible.

Can we get a lower card-processing rate?

Possibly. Stripe offers a discounted nonprofit rate to some organisations, but it's arranged directly between your organisation and Stripe, not through us. It's aimed at registered nonprofits whose income is mostly donations, and there are eligibility conditions (entry fees and ticket sales don't count toward the threshold), so not every group qualifies. If you think you might be eligible, contact Stripe to apply. The standard rate applies to everyone else.

Are there hidden fees?

No. The charges on this page are the full picture: our platform fee on entry, and Stripe's standard card-processing charge on all payments. We don't take a percentage of sponsorship, charge per participant, or add fees for Gift Aid claims.

Do you have a contract or minimum term?

No. Set up an event whenever you want one. Run it. Stop using fun-run.co.uk after that if you like. There's nothing to cancel.
